This year's esteemed Stafford judge, featured speaker and reader is the widely published and award-winning poet Madeline DeFrees. DeFrees has been the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a National Endowment of the Arts grant, Washington State Book Award, and the PoetsWest Lifetime Achievement Award. DeFrees will speak and give a reading following the dinner banquet and award presentations.

Join award winning writers in an intimate setting to learn, nurture and celebrate Washington State poets and poetry.

Poets of all levels of experience will find this conference an enriching and inspiring format to develop new and existing skills in informative and hands-on workshops, live and video performances and plenty of networking opportunities.

Learn more about editing and critiquing, the creative process, and self publishing from friendly and knowledgeable instructors, and share poetry with a wide range of fellow poets.

Exciting Sessions & Presenters

Presence, Memory, Mind and Body: Award winning poet Madeline Defrees brings her experience, love of words and creative approach to this fascinating workshop. Let her rekindle your fire for writing.

The Secrets of Sound: Widely published writer and poet Susan Zwinger brings her talent for close observation to this practical workshop. The shape of a line can make or break a poem. A student of Richard Hugo, she will share some secrets of sound to make your poems sing.

The Expanding World of Poetry: The publishers of KOTA PRESS, Kara and Hawk Jones, will help you examine the pros and cons of small presses, self-publication and electronic publishing.

Registration

Early Bird Registration rate is $60. Save 20 percent if payment is received prior to April 15, 2003. This fee covers all events as well as lunch buffet and dinner banquet.

Regular Registration for the full day is $75. This will apply to any registrations received after April 15, including on-site. This fee covers all events as well as lunch buffet and dinner banquet.

Dinner Banquet and DeFrees reading only: $35. This fee covers the dinner banquet, awards and reading by Madeline DeFrees.

DeFrees Reading only: $12. This will entitle you to enter following dinner to hear award-winning poet Madeline DeFrees read.
