Oregon State Poetry Association 2006 Fall Poetry Contest

The Washington Poets Association, in cooperation with the Oregon State Poetry Association, announces OSPA's 2006 Fall Poetry Contest.

The OSPA 2006 Fall Poetry Contest will award $800 in prizes for first, second and third place poems in the following categories:

  1. Poet's Choice: poems in any form on any subject.
  2. Dueling Judges: two judges review the entries independently to choose their own winners and if both pick the same poems, the poets get double prizes.
  3. Traditional Verse: poems in any traditional poetry form.
  4. Light Verse (a new category this year): We are looking for wit and polish; funny, satirical, sophisticated; in elegant form, OSPA president and contest chair, Sharon Roso, says. "Go ahead--have fun!"
  5. Poets who have never won a cash prize for a poem.
  6. Members Only

Honorable mentions will be awarded in all the contests and prize winners will be published in the association’s annual Verseweavers anthology.

Judges are chosen from among established Oregon poets, poetry publishers and poetry teachers from Oregon colleges and universities. Money prizes and certificates will be awarded at OSPA's Fall Conference, October 13-14, 2006, in Waldport, OR.

FINE PRINT: Entries must be postmarked on or before August 28, 2006 to be eligible for the contest. Members pay $1 and nonmembers $4 for each poem entered. Poets interested in entering one or more of the contests can get a list of the rules by writing to:
